CHALLENGE

Three Northwestern PhD candidates set out to solve a problem we’ve all experienced: a dead smartphone. Turns out that harnessing your own movement into a wearable battery was pretty revolutionary. Oncore Strategy worked virtually with cross-functional teams from Chicago, Brooklyn, Hong Kong, and China to deliver their big idea from napkin sketch to shipping in 18 months.

SOLUTION

Kickstarter was a natural fit for a startup solving such a big problem. Beginning with “your movement is your power,” we developed the marketing roadmap and all the creative to birth the first ever “wearable motion charger” into a shipping reality: logo, brand, image, website. Collaborating with Team AMPY, we co-developed the brand positioning, web copy, Kickstarter video script (watch above), online ads, social and PR content.

AMPY Kickstarter Staff Pick

Kickstarter caught on. Solid Backer numbers came in. AMPY got a Kickstarter Staff Pick. Then tech media, social, and broadcast popped, including 20+ minutes on the Today Show.

With funding in place, Oncore Strategy supported the product and accessories design, packaging, and lifestyle photography, as well as the UI/UX development of the AMPY app. Our manufacturing connections came in handy as we helped establish their offshore supply chain, manufacturing aligned with US distribution, and pick-n-pack fulfillment.
